About Willard Library's Local History Collection

Battle Creek, settled on the ancestral lands of the Potawatomi and Ottawa Native American bribes, was a stop on the Underground Railroad and the birthplace of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The abolitionist and human rights activist Sojourner Truth made her home here. Breakfast food pioneers C. W. Post and W. K. Kellogg made Battle Creek a household name worldwide.

Willard Library, one of Michigan's oldest public libraries, is committed to preserving and sharing that history through collections of material of local and national interest. We are grateful for the support of our partners, Historical Society of Battle Creek, the Battle Creek Regional History Museum and Kimball House Museum.
